Twignose wishes you a Happy New Year…

A little fun project at Kosmonati. Me and Bram Vermaas wanted to make a creature that can showcase our strengths : good shadig and lighting and heavy-duty rigging. Later we asked Ruth Taylor for help with the concept art and Ivo DIependaal for overall zbrush support. We are planning on making an animation where you can see him moving.

Meanwhile have a look at some work in progress

Our first excercise at Kosmonati. A small test of our in-house crowd simulation tool. Also I had fun with a non-realistic look

Here comes a bit more insight into the process:

Life is Beautiful published online

Great news! "Life is Beautiful" is getting a lot of recognition since it got published online. It is nice to see that among others it has Vimeo Staff Pick and is featured on fubiz.net.

"Life is Beautiful" is a short movie completed in 2013, on which I had the chance to work. It is directed by Ben Brand, produced by Rogier Dorant(CAVIAR)/Niels Scheide and created by Fube/NMtrix. In less than 10 minutes it tells the story of Anton - a really short guy, facing challenges everywhere and all the time. Finally he decides that it's time to finish it all. He is done with life... but life isn't done with him yet.

After a 2 year journey the short has seen it's premiere. It was a special moment to see it on the big screen, because I have witnessed the whole development of the project - since the first pitches and early sketches till the rendering and compositing phase. Although I was not involved in the project till the very end, I worked on the pipeline, modelling and rendering/shading aspects.

At the premiere I took a snapshot of the credits...

New office

Again moving! After only two months at the office at Leidseplein, I found an even better place. This time there is a view to a channel crossroad and I'm sharing the space with two very musically-oriented guys: Ruben and Moos. Awesome! Drop by at Oudeschans 85, Amsterdam.

These days I'm helping PostPanic with relatively large photorealistic project. Just when I joined the team, it was time for another Bulgarian to leave - a producer intern was done with his time with the PP guys. Because of that he brought cakes. Awesome.

  • Studio:PostPanic
  • Director:Chris Staves
  • VFX supervisor:Ivor Goldberg

During the first week of production for this project we got total freedom. I worked with Jurrien Boogert on the second shot and had one of my most productive weeks of modelling. When Chris came back, we already have started working on a basic lighting setup.

Ziggo: Familie de Groot

  • Brand:Ziggo
  • Client:House of Secrets

For a new site of Ziggo, the largest Internet provider in the Netherlands, House of Secrets had to produce 11 short clips with CG environment and live action actors. The guys at HoS needed someone to help them with the photorealistic shading of several of the rooms. I also worked on the on-set HDRI creation. Above is one of the 6 environments on which I worked.

Here is another video of the series:

This interior had a classical problem with bright dots in the curtains. Usually it's the GI reflective caustics to blame.
