For a new site of Ziggo, the largest Internet provider in the Netherlands, House of Secrets had to produce 11 short clips with CG environment and live action actors. The guys at HoS needed someone to help them with the photorealistic shading of several of the rooms. I also worked on the on-set HDRI creation. Above is one of the 6 environments on which I worked.

Here is another video of the series:

This interior had a classical problem with bright dots in the curtains. Usually it's the GI reflective caustics to blame.

A few months ago I worked on this bombastic transformation of a little normal chip becoming a large awesome deep ridged chip. The main challenge here was to find the right balance between realism and "tasty" look, the second being completely subjective per person.  I was busy with the modelling, look development and compositing. There was minor client feedback, but regardless of this the job was finished earlier than the budgeted time. The advantages of hiring the right person ...

The joy of painting

I got approached by a German game developer to create for them images of 5 buildings for their (under development) online strategy game. Since I had complete freedom, I decided to make little color concepts. For the first time in my life I'm painting in Photoshop!

The joy of painting

I started by picking two main hues - the orange and the dark green and then just started playing and finding out what I like. I think I'll be doing this much more in the future - just draft a rough 3D model and then paint over it to see where should I go with the colours and the light. Here are 3 other final images, along with a bit of the progress:

This one is an EMP cannon. Since it's only shooting electro-magnetic waves, I thought it should look fragile and innocent:

This one is the Ion Defense Tower. It uses an old nuclear reactor and works best against low orbit space ships:

Inspiration for this were oldschool spaceship drawings by artists like John Berkey. I tried to capture the retro look and vibe of the sci-fi movies of last century:

Client: Minivegas
My role: Lighting, Shading, Pre-compositing

With a two weeks of time between the shoot and final delivery, this spot for Sony was a nice challenge for the whole team. Thanks to the good on-set work, I could easily make the first version of the lighting and shading for the whole movie. From then on I continued improving the shading and lighting and with the rest of the Minivegas team polished the movie to it’s final look. In the last stages of the process I got a lot of little nice tips how to make images that look nice while still keeping a big level of realism. In general this is one of the most smoothly going projects I have worked on. Even in the overtime hours, I didn’t feel stress or urgency, to a big extend due to the calm attitude of the studio producers. Working with the Minivegas team was easy, fast and pretty much pure fun. Hope this can be seen also in the movie.

Together with Smokin’ Barrel we helped Pon Cat explain in an easy and fun way some of the features of their new all-in-one software – the M3. The design of the robot went trough meticulous adjustments and the little character is going to be used in various formats. I modelled, shaded and lit the robot and did the on-set work on most of the shots.

Lynx is a multi-national financial company focusing on stock markets trade. For one of our first projects at Fube, we had to highlight properly a set of powerful tools for maximizing profit and automating the trading process. I was responsible for all 3D elements used in some of the 12 movies we had to make.

Sometimes we get approached by clients which are… well… BIG. When a company brings goods to more than 350 million consumers and moves 434.6 million tonnes per year, you can call it big. Surprisingly, The Port of Rotterdam were very friendly and clear in their requirements for the project. The result you can see here. I was involved in the production process and took care of the shading and lighting, modeling, a bit of animation and scene assembly.

This is Tiffany – the mascot of the Gift Avenue online shopping experience. Tiffany had to emanate some of the qualities of the modern shopping girl – confident, sexy and fast-paced. Working with the clients from La Comm was a pleasure and after a few turns in the design process, here she is.

For this project I had to capture the cosiness of a mountain apartment hotel. I chose for sunset light because of its comforting warm color and combined it with contrasty color scheme for more depth. Kostadin Kostadinov helped with the design and compositing. The picture on the wall is by Andrew Gonzalez. V-Ray’s super fast displacement was used for the fireplace. The carpet is made with VrayFur.

Enjoyed this project very much. Practically every little detail on the shoe was hand-modelled. Along with modelling and unwrapping, I contributed with camera tracking, various work on the render passes and very little animation.  Finally I was responsible for the fragmentation in the “macro shot”, which was a great chance to get familiar with RayFire.
